I first saw the Ke’oke’o, or White Hibiscus, growing wild in the dangerous valleys of Waimea Canyon of Kauai in 1999. After a death defying 3,000 foot climb, through bamboo forests and sugar cane grass, I was amazed to discover these delicate white blossoms with an unusual sweet fragrance, rare for a Hibiscus…. Ok…. Uh… Ahem.... Ok, the first time I saw the White Hibiscus was at the Banyan Tree Park in Lahaina, Maui. I was doing an Art Show but it really was in 1999. |
